TRUE FITNESS opens its 7th outlet at Tampines Junction

(By female Guest writer - Farah E.)

TUESDAY, 17th JANUARY – TRUE FITNESS launched its 7th outlet at NTUC Income Tampines Junction, Level 8. Within walking distance from Tampines Interchange, this 24, 000 sq feet fitness sanctuary houses a well-lit and spacious group exercise studio with a members’ lounge area nearby, a consigned hot yoga studio, and a Spinning studio.  It is equipped with an ubiquitous array of cardiovascular and strength machines. It also boasts its first Muay Thai ring. The layout of the club is well-organized hence I was able to quickly familiarize myself around.

The fiesta was set with an array of exciting activities; high energy and enthusiasm filled the atmosphere. Gracing the night was the presence of Mr Patrick Wee, CEO of True Fitness and celebrities like Paul Foster and Keegan Kang. The first activity I picked was Zumba. I have been doing it for a year and am an avid fan. I could tell that the class was set to its easiest level.

The instructor Mathew was encouraging and I liked that he stepped down to dance together with members. Unfortunately (for me), the Zumba session lasted for half an hour only but that did not indicate the end of my workout…

Come on! Don’t be shy… Now hook and jab!

I challenged myself to try to Bodystep following that and I admit I struggled to keep up but had fun anyway, laughing with other members who were doing it for the first time too. Gathering around the boxing ring, CEO Mr Patrick Wee gave a short speech (yes! In the boxing ring itself… What a brilliant idea for a stage) before everyone witnessed a wai khru ram may, a ritual performed by Muay Thai practitioners before a match. It set the atmosphere for what was coming next – a 20-minute Bodycombat special led by True Fitness instructors. A short but intensive work out.

I was approached to join the Roundhouse Kick challenge but I was too shy, although I really regretted when I saw the prizes for the top Three winners – True Fitness hampers, worth more than $200! Not to say I would have won, but at least I could have had a shot at it! :P

The event was concluded with food and refreshments where I mingled with a few members who turned out to be loyal customers of True Fitness because of their extensive range of classes. Its dance classes seemed to be most popular (all the better for someone who loves dancing, like me!). With more than 30 classes (check it out!), every individual of every fitness level and preferred mode of exercise can indulge and enjoy.

I certainly enjoyed myself and cannot wait to start on my journey with True Fitness. Time to sports suit up and usher in the New Year with a healthy and great body! ;)

No excuses, serious.

Its the mid-week and if you have not planned anything sporty or fitness-oriented for this week, well, not to worry, cause you’ve got Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday left. You have got 4 days to train, to run, to exercise, to workout, to swim, to cycle, to climb, to jog, to do yoga, to gym, to fight, to spar, to lift tyres, to kettlebell, to play soccer, to play tennis, to play rugby, to do everything that you possibly could to maintain or UP your level of fitness.

Personally, im having my exams next week, havent covered much and you might think that i dont give a damn about it. Well, NO! Cause i do give a damn about it just as much as i give a damn about my fitness/health/training. I make it a point to train AT LEAST 3 times a week. Focusing on building strength, size and cardio.

One of my favourite ways to “end of the workout” is to do a treadmill run (since im already in the gym) for min 10min…..with weights. 2 x 3kg dumbbells is good enough to make me sweat like mad at a level 10.0 pace. Believe me, once you take away those dumbbells and run, its simply amazing at what speed you could push yourself to run at. Overall, the exercise is kinda dangerous if you’re new to it. But hey, i always like to spice things up a bit. ;)

Busy this week still?

Have a break, have a laugh….

Was browsing through YouTube and watching clips of The Simpsons when i chanced upon this clip. Its hilarious to me, at least. Well, have a good laugh, clear your mind of the work and school stuffs. It will sure lift your spirits higher……

……now when thats done, shut up and train.

TEMPTING MUCH? I SMELL PROCRASTINATION~

My NIKE5 GATOS

Recently, like prolly last 2 weeks or so, i got my hands on the latest range of Nike shoes. This time, it isnt a running shoe but its a street soccer shoe. Its the much awaited (since April 2011) Nike5 Gatos! Well, partly why i bought the shoe is because its more affordable than the initial idea of getting another Onitzuka Tigers. Which we all know would cost somewhat between $140-$170? And truth be told, i had bought them Tigers in Taiwan back in 2007. Believe me, Tigers stand the test of time i tell you! 4 years and still wearable!

Well, if you don’t mind the grungy and rugged look that is! :P

But anyways, besides “being budget” conscious another reason why i got these shoes was because lately, i began getting into the mood of some soccer lovin’ action! And the Gatos were build for some street style kill. Believe me (again), if looks could kill, these shoes have gotta be charged. With uber intricate “touch pads” in a form of soft pyramid-like shape that looks rather 3D-ish from the side, which IS protruding out anyways, the shoe has a pretty neat casual look as well! Its kinda like a shoe for both casual wear AND play!

Its comes in (sadly) 4 colours only. I had expected at least 5 you know. The all-red (which the material is suede) and black-yellow, black-lime green and white-green. So without much of a hesitation, i got myself the White-Green one cause it would go well with my most of my apparels and my sense of dressing.

2 things about the shoe which i personally feel is a plus point is that the heel portion is fitted with Cushlon material which gives extra cushion and comfort for the excessive running and/or daily walkabout with this shoe. Upon initial wearing and walking around with it, i could feel my heel pressing against a softer foam like material underneath the inner sole of the shoe. I did it with a test against another running shoe of mine (not the Tigers) and indeed this “cushlon” is somewhat softer and spongier than that of the other shoe.

Next up would have to be the XDR Rubber soles which stands for “Extra Durable Rubber” i supposed. Cause thats what the Nike staff told me when i asked him about it. With a hardy sole, one can expect to play this shoe in the street soccer courts or even on the road tarmac surface without worrying if the soles are gonna wear out fast. But to be honest, this i have to have more time to test it out and get back to you to confirm. Till then, oh well, what the heck, just wear it lah!

All in all, the shoe’s outer looks is very nice and has a unique inner side design. But one gripe though is that despite getting myself half a size larger than my usual size 9, it feels kinda tight on the sides of my feet. Snug fit is it but its kinda tight at the sides. Too snuggy i guess? Hahaha! Let’s hope that this shoe would “expand” like most shoes and gets better over time. Till then, thats the only downside for this shoe.

In terms of performance wise in playing soccer with it, i have yet to give it a shot. So cant really tell the effectiveness of the “touch pads” etc. But seriously, dont let your equipment be a major factor of your on-pitch, in the gym or your run performance. Performance comes from the mental state of mind of the athlete themselves. The Nike5 Gato is already an awesome shoe, just waiting to be worn and used by the ready and the stylish.

Question is, are you?

The shoe retails at S$119 and is available at Nike Wisma.

Well, thats where i bought it. Heehee!

HAVE A BIG BREAK & JUST DO IT.

SG Titans

On top of running, well, before running even, i’ve gotten myself hook on Kettlebelling thus i joined this Pro-Community Fitness Enthusiast group called SG TITANS. the people there come from all walks of life. From Students to Fitness trainers to Engineers and even NS men.

What i LOVE about this group is that, not only is it free (no “membership fee” required) but the people there are VERY VERY humble AND friendly. They would take their time to teach you the proper techniques of kettlebelling, tyre lifting and many many more.

Believe me, i thought i “had it” covered when i had hit the gym and can lift weights blah blah blah, but with SG TITANS, it was a whole NEW ball game. True Story. They train on Thursdays and Sundays every week. 6pm to 10pm @ Woodlands, Singapore. I’ll be dropping by tonight as i have been missing out on 2 weeks of trainings due to work commitment.

I’ll tell you guys more about it soon! In the mean time, you can find out more about it @ http://www.sgtitans.com too!

LETS BUILD SOME HURTING BOMBS! Again. :P
