Nike WE RUN SG 10K’s Record Breaking Sell-out within 48 hours of Official Launch
Singapore, 8 September 2011 – Registration for Nike WE RUN SG 10K was closed within 48 hours of the official launch on 5 September, with all 12,000 slots fully subscribed to. This is a record breaking sell-out for Nike’s fourth 10K race in Singapore since the first Human Race in 2008. Set to flag off on 9 October 2011, the registration rate is the fastest known for any 10K race in Singapore, and within all of Nike’s races worldwide.
“We are thrilled to receive such an overwhelming response. This is a great testament to the race experience we have built and delivered over the last three years since the inaugural run, and demonstrates the passion and development of running in Singapore. It also clearly shows the desirability of the brand that has allowed us to close out in a record breaking time,” shared Vijaya Kumar Jayaraj, Marketing Manager, Nike Singapore. “With the Nike WE RUN SG 10K, we want to harness the energy of runners and celebrate their individual and cumulative achievements and motivations as we usher in a new season of running.”
The return of the race this year pays homage to runners and aims to connect Singapore’s running community even further, by celebrating the concept of WE RUN – where runners connect, motivate and inspire each other. The Nike WE RUN SG 10K this year is part of the Nike WE RUN City 10K races, where a total of 150,000 runners from 15 cities such as Seoul (South Korea), Monterrey (Mexico) and Santiago (Chile) will be part of a unique run experience combining running and music.
Other than individual running categories, runners can also rope in their running buddy for the online Run Buddy Run Nike+ Challenge, where buddies can motivate each other to complete the race faster, better and stronger.
The annual run is set to kick off at the Old Kallang Airport, Singapore’s first purpose-built civil airport. It will also be the venue of the finish line and Race Village, allowing runners to celebrate in style with a host of energetic music and entertainment.
In line with the theme this year, Nike Singapore will be donating US$10,000 of the race’s proceeds to Children’s Aid Society, a contribution to help inspire and motivate the children and teens under its care.
