11 Days to the SEA Games 2011!

Yes! The 26th South East Asian Games is happening next month – November 11th, and its gonna be held at Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia. Just so you know, it is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asianamely – BRUNEI, CAMBODIA, INDONESIA, LAOS, MALAYSIA, MYANMAR, PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE, THAILAND, TIMOR-LESTE & VIETNAM!

The games is under regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia. (reference: Wikipedia)

From my understanding, our TEAM SINGAPORE is sending 369 of the Nation’s best athletes to represent Singapore and participate in the games. These athletes come from diverse sporting disciplines ranging from athletics, sport climbing and even wake boarding! How cool is that?!

Another GOLD Medal again, this time round?

The SEA Games is one of the biggest and prestigious sporting events in the region (next to the Commonwealth Games) and with all the region’s top athletes vying out for the ultimate GOLD MEDAL, you can expect very close competition and races. And even perhaps, past records being broken too!

With the likes of Mok Ying Ren (Athletics – 5000m, Marathon), James Wong (Discus & who is also the Chef de Mission of the SG Team), Jasmine Yeong-Nathan (Bowling) and the Sailing team among the long list of top athletes, be sure to expect some great and awesome moments in sports. But of course, 100% support has got to be given to the lesser informed sports (in Singapore) such as Petanque, Equestrian and also Boxing just to name a few. Afterall, it is TEAM SINGAPORE we’re all rooting for! ^_^.

All the best to TEAM SINGAPORE for the 26th SEA Games. Yes, indeed winning the GOLD MEDALS is important, but what’s even more important, to me at least, is that we cultivate a sense of sporting excellence in our country which i strongly believe will help motivate further Singaporeans in general to pick up a sporting activity and incorporate it into their lifestyle. It doesnt matter what sport you do, as long as you do it.

“Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, & a hard-to-find alloy called guts.” – Dan Gable, an American amateur wrestler who was undefeated state champion during his sophomore through senior years.
